Hi all

Three (now four) new things on our site:

  1. Spell Check
  2. Up/Down Voting
  3. Committee Members' roles
  4. Top Trip Reports

Spell Check

For those of you whose browser (i.e. IE) does not have a spell checker, you can click the button in the toolbar above where you type to have poorly spelled words marked.  The button has a tick mark and 'ABC' on it.

Up/Down Voting

We have implemented a voting system on the site.  If you are logged in, you can upvote or downvote items.  This will allow us to decide which items should be put into special categories (like "The 20 best trip reports", or "The best technical articles") and to allow us to decide which trip reports should win the monthly prize.

Downvoting is useful to let someone know that what they are posting is not nice, incorrect or useful/constructive.  You decide.

Please don't abuse this - the site is for all of us and many thousands of others we aren't even aware of.

Committee Members' Roles

You will notice that the committee members have their role on the committee added to their signatures - so you can see who is responsible for the club and whom to contact if you need to.

Top Trip Reports

In the trip reports menu at the top is 'Top Reports'.  These are the most upvoted trip reports.  To make it more valuable, upvote your favourite old reports (and even your won reports) so that they appear on this page.

Feel free to give me feedback on things you would like to see on the site.

Thank you Charles for assisting us Boertjies with this facility. Ek hoop egter dat die Afrikaans sprekendes onder ons steeds die vrymoedigheid sal hê om artikels en/of kommentaar in Afrikaans te lewer.

My next comment will be in Afrikaans Tongue Out

In the top menu of the site, under 'trip reports', is a link to 'Top Reports'.  This is a page showing the reports that have been upvoted, in order of the number of upvotes.

Right now it is a bit empty.  How about going to your favourite trip report (or even your own trip reports), and upvoting them so that they appear on the list.  Eventually, the most popular reports will be at the top.

Charles, could I please ask that you check - some recent trip reports went missing, amongst others my one 'An eight day Namibia trip'.

Thank you.

A bug I introduced when I made the changes - some trip reports were filtered out of the block by mistake.  I think it is fixed now.  Thanks for pointing it out.
