My 650's starter switch is slowly giving up, no matter the continuous application of contact cleaner. As usual, you cannot get the switch on its own, but have to get the entire right-hand-side combination switch (includes kills switch, etc.). Anyone got spares lying around? Is it worth it to contact Acme Salvage? Picture of part(s) below:

Hi Zanie

On Mr.Badger I had a similar issue.  All I did was replace the actual microswitch inside the RHS unit.  There was a place in Paarden Island that supplied it.  A bit of bending and soldering and the thing worked.  YMMV.

Are you sure it is the microswitch?  If it is slowly giving up it might be a dry/loose solder joint.  Have you opened it up to see?  Don't be afraid - it is broken anyway...

We've opened it up, but a lack of knowledge is no use here. I can do my own oil changes now, but soldering...? All I know is hot-starting is easy, i.e. when you use a screwdriver to make the connection between the two wires. But when I'm pressing around vainly on the switch from the outside, it takes a small miracle to make that connection.

The 650 starter motor actuation switch is something that I quite regularly 'service'.It has a small copper contact which needs to be sanded clean and then the starter works like new.

Please come by my workshop and I will gladly help you in this regard.

Then, Charles can I have the contacts number for the micro switches please?I am unaware of such a supplier.

Warmest regards and keep well...

Sorry Jandré
I don't have the details any more - it was years ago.  If I happen to come across them I will let you know.  What is important to note is that such suppliers exist.
