Some of you may remember Noel Wood, who did Geoff's Wild Coast tour about 10 years ago on a big 1150GS, with limited skill immortalised on video.

He owned Constantia Pharmacy and eventually left it to his children when he settled in Calitzdorp.

I have just heard that he has passed.  RIP.  Old bikers never die - they just ride in new places. (ed: Turns out old bikers really never die - Noel is alive and well and has just celebrated his 80th birthday)

On our Wild Coast trip, this type of thing happened at least 3 times a day with Noel. Every time he got up and continued, sometimes with a bit of help. Considering he was almost 70 years of age at the time he impressed all of us with his stamina and endurance. RIP Noel!

We are deeply saddened to hear of Noel's passing. A true Gentleman in all respects. Noel was a member of this club for many years. Besides riding bikes he displayed excellent equestrian skills. We will certainly miss your annual visits. Ride that beautiful highway in the sky. Condolences to Barbara, family and friends.

On a drive back from the deep South I get a call and this is how the conversation went:

Hello René this is Noel Wood,  Pardon, says I; Noel Wood, From where; me again, Calitzdorp,

But you have passed on; (a hearty chuckle on the other end) is my reply, No, I'm alive and well, Are you sure; me again; Yes. I had my 80th birthday the other day with about 60 people present.

So the great news is NOEL WOOD is alive and well still living in............Calitzdorp, Yeaaa.

Think before you ink.

Oops, but good news.  Clearly rumours of his passing on have been greatly exaggerated.  Must be a case of the Chinese whisper by those with a propensity for gossip...

Noel's place is along the river in that semi-circular ride that starts in Calitzdorp and ends along the road to Oudtshoorn (we did it during the BMW Bike Fest in Oudtshoorn).
