Points: 1

On the 5th September 2008 my family woke up after a poor nights sleep from excitement and RELUCTANTLY went to school/work because they new that after school we were going to join Leon, Laurence and fellow organizers at the Greatest African PRE GS challenge at Matroosberg. "IN THE SNOW" How cool is that guys, as Wayne would say!!!! Rumor had it at the time that if the snow was on the camp site then the farmer had agreed to bulldozer it away for us to put our tents down. Do you think this would have reduced the 40 or so bikes limited by Lisa??? No way!!! Die Hard series 1962!!!! Excellent report Rusty. It is always a pleasure to see you and your family participating and sharing experiences. Your pics and story almost make me miss my Dakar - NOT! Good one, Lawrence Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safetly in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadsides, loudly proclaiming WOW, What a RIDE!

That's great.... Why did no one say anything or was i just not noticing? This would have been, and by the looks of the trip report, must have been a brilliant weekend! Nice One!

Wow. Looks like an absolutely fabulous weekend. Like Shaun this is the first I heard of it. Was it only for people doing the GSC this year? Or is there some secret society we don't know about? And how do we learn the special handshake?
There are so many problems in this world. Luckily there's a wristband available for almost all of them.

Cloud - the special handshake is any handshake without yellow dishwashing gloves... I too don't recall anything about this until two or three days before the event...

You need to get yourself onto Leon's email list. I suspect the list is based on those who have done courses with Country Trax and gave their email addresses. Also, given that the weekend was fairly technical, minimum requirement was an intro to offroad course (I think). Website Administrator [http://honeybadger.net Honey Badger IT Services]

I think it was R600 or so. Basically R300 per day. It was one of the best weekends I have spent off-roading. A practical application of all the stuff I learnt on the courses. Website Administrator [http://honeybadger.net Honey Badger IT Services]

Hmmm, odd. I should be on the mailing list. I've successfully completed the intro-course. Anyway, thanks for the info. Like I said looks like an amazing weekend.

That sound reasonable! It's unfortunate that I missed this one! I wish there were more weekends/courses in this price bracket... The Klipbokkop weekends are just to expensive for me! Like the upcoming rider/pillion - R5000 is just too expensive for me.. Corné Kloppers http://www.bikepics.com/members/pantsula/07f650gs/ 0849130391 ckloppers@gmail.com

Think of it this way. For the cost of the intermediate weekend (R3000), if it prevents you falling seriously just once, you will have saved the expense of your excess (and the pain, and the increased premiums, and the risk of death, and...). Also, the weekend is a superb holiday away. So part of the cost you would have paid on a B&B anyway if you had gone away. I know that after my courses, I have better control of the bike and of any situation I find myself in. When I come around a corner and confront an unexpected hazard, I have a wider range of evasive options available to me. This makes my riding safer and more fun, and cheaper in the long run. That said, I have been forbidden by my financial manager to spend money on the rider/pillion weekend. Website Administrator [http://honeybadger.net Honey Badger IT Services]

Buy your financial manager flowers... and possibly a nice shiny helmet or jacket. The only way she'll get to show it off is by attending the course. win-win.

I'M THE FINANCIAL MANAGER :-) R5000 is worth more to us in our money market account at this stage. Saving up for Aus... When we land there we will have to buy a laptop, mobiles, bond payment (what Saffas know as a deposit for a rental) etc. etc. I'm sure the rider/pillion at Klipbokkop will be great and life changing as most people would say... Is it worth R5000? I can debate that point ;-) Corné Kloppers http://www.bikepics.com/members/pantsula/07f650gs/ 0849130391 ckloppers@gmail.com
