Charles, the drownmings were actually quite legit.

We crossed thje river at 09h00 and then re-crossed it at 12h40 by which time the water had risen by 1oo mm. this you can see on the drum in the photos.

The 1150 just making it through made it look ok.

But as the 1200's started it was evident the 100mm was too high.

No bow wave just depth.

And so we walked the other 1200's across and the 1150s and 650's and the R80GS rode themselves across.

Thanx Andy, great day. I never thought i could so much fun getting wet, half freezing, stomping around in a river "with my boots on" and letting Vettie drown. Smile

A big thank you to Andy and crew for a great day out. I learned a few more things which was great and met a fantstic bunch of guys - thanks to everyone on the ride.

The water in the crossing had nothing on that which fell from the heavens on the way from Durbanville to the deep South!

Hi Andy and Anne,

many thanks for a great ride - good opportunity to initiate my new GS boots, and yes, indeed, they ARE waterproof! Can't wait for the next outing? Cheers Graham

The old GS may have made the water crossings with ease but I am do need to drain the gearbox oil!

To be safe I am doing all the fluids while I am at it - not a very productive morning work wise though!

Charles,

wrt the water ingewsted into the airbox.

When we removed the sparking plug, water already ran out the left bank.

And when we tik'd the starter, it shot a huge blob of water metres off out the left bank with a drip or two from the right bank.

Thus all the water ingested drains straight into the airbox and maybe the sump

Martin, Rusty better checkl your sight glass for milkyness  HMMMMM

Even though I was the only 1150 at the GS Trophy, several people commented on how their old 1150 was the best bike they ever had (except the youngsters of course, who mostly didn't know what an 1150 was).  And to top it all, the 1200 GSA got a weight bonus point allocation - but Mr.Badger, who is a good 20kg heavier than a 1200GSA was not given any weight bonus because the marshalls reckon he is easier to ride, especially in sand!

Charles im sorry ,but almost anyone riding and "old 1150" will tell you that same story.

They are sorely mistaken....it was great bike in it's day and continues to hold its own ,but it will never come close to the new 1200GSA.

Im Glad Badger served you well.

recomend that you you check the dif oil as well. I know mines a different generation but there was water in the gearbox oil and a bit in the diff oil. Easy check but expensive to fix if left!
