The BMW Motorrad Club Cape invites you all to join Geoff Russell on another fantastic "Off Road" Tour to the fantastic Transkei Wild Coast. Join us to "Make life a Ride"!
Pillions with the more experienced riders will be welcome and encouraged and we encourage non-members and other brands to join us on this fantastic 10 night 11 day Tour. Only 7 days leave necessary. 3 Rest days!

Once again to make your ride more pleasurable and to give you peace of mind on the tour we have decided to again arrange, for all our safety, a back-up vehicle and the club trailer. The back-up vehicle will also carry your baggage should you not want to load it on your motorcycle.

As many of you are aware I have been touring in the Transkei for about 20 years. In all this time I have never come "down" the Coast, we always go "up".  On this Tour we are coming down the coast which will be a new experience for me and one I am really looking forward to.
So you have decided to Join us on this Tour and you have convinced your partner to join you as well as some friends that have never ridden with us before. Let me give you an idea of what to expect:

  • Day 1 - Friday 18th August) After an early breakfast we depart Cape Town and head for our first night's accommodation where we are booked in on a DB&B basis.
  • Day 2 - Saturday 19th August) Up reasonably early as we have about 550kms to cover today. After breakfast we move on up the Coast passing Port Elizabeth, Port Alfred and East London then on to our destination in the village of Cintsa.
  • Day 3 - Sunday 20th August) After a bit of a lie in we enjoy a magnificent breakfast before a late start that see's us riding up the N2 before turning off and heading for the Coast at Coffee Bay. We should arrive by mid afternoon.
  • Day 4 - Monday 21st August) Today is a rest day with a few options. You can join me as I show you some of the sights around Coffee Bay on the bikes.

Or you can walk or ride to "Coffee Bay" village, here you can chill at the coffee shop or check out how the other half live at the numerous Back Packers. If we did not visit "Hole in the Wall" yesterday we will visit it today or you can ride there on your own. Or you can just relax and do nothing.
  • Day 5 - Tuesday 22nd  August) After breakfast we start heading for the mouth of the Qora River where we will spend 2 nights at one of my favorite Hotels along the Wild coast. Here the waves break against the Bar.
  • Day 6 - Wednesday 23rd August) Today is a rest day. If you are brave and the weather is good you can go for a swim in the pool or the sea. You can go horse riding, walking along the Beach to the River Mouth. Take the water taxi across the Qora River and Walk to Mazeppa Bay Hotel for lunch then walk back. Or you can chill in the small lounge, enjoy "Cocktails" at the Bar or just chillax.
  • Day 7 - Thursday 24th August) After a late start we head off to the Hotel at the Mouth of the Inxaxo River for a light lunch. Here you will have time to strip down and relax a bit until we need to head on to our destination for the night.
  • Day 8 - Friday 25th August) Today is another rest day. I recommend you join the walk and short boat ride to the "Gates" with "Trevor's Trails". The walk is not far or strenuous. Take a "bather" with in case you want to try the jump from the rocks into the pool at the "Gates".
On your return to the Hotel you can take walk along the beach, read, relax with some lovely coffee in the lounge or play snooker on the full sized table. Or just do nothing.
  • Day 9 - Saturday 26th August) After a late start we head for the Kei River which we cross by "Pont". Unlike the one on the Breede River this one is motor driven. Once we arrive on the other side it's a hop and a skip and we are back in paradise in the village of Cintsa. We will arrive early and here I highly recommend a Massage" in the beauty Centre. The ladies here know their business and it will be just the remedy for our bodies after the many days of off road riding. Thereafter a nice nap or walk on the beach may be just what the Doctor ordered. Tonight is Seafood Extravaganza night and what a meal awaits us. With bellies full we will roll into bed like beached Whales and dream about the fantastic meal we have just enjoyed.
  • Day 10 - Sunday 27th August) After a reasonably early start we head for Tsitsikamma all on Tar. Todays ride takes us via King Williams Town and Grahamstown. On arrival at our hotel we freshen up and meet at the Bar area where we will celebrate our Tour ending.
  • Day 11 - Monday 28th August) We enjoy an early breakfast before heading home a distance of approx 550kms.
Total distance approx 3000kms. Previous trip report here.
